Monday Ramblings

A recent “demon” has arisen in the Local gaming Circle (LGC).  Our competitive natures are starting to get the best of us, and sometimes we try to eat off each other’s heads.  One or two conditions tend to bring this up but a pattern in forming.

The two touchy points are:

  • Unit Counters - Hard & Soft Counters, and;
  • Knowledge of the basic rules

Before we get started some definitions to help those unfamiliar:

  • A hard counter is something that beats its counterpart even with inferior investment.  Whilst a soft counter usually beats its counterpart, but may lose with inferior investment (or bad dice rolling).
  • Knowledge of rules tend to run in two circles - RAW va RAI - RAW= Rules As Written- i.e. the literal interpretation of the wording of the rules to determine its true meaning.  RAI= Rules As Intended- I.e. trying to understand the motivations and the basis of the rule to understand how the words should be applied in action. (or using examples shown)
These points are very hard to not ignore as they can stop a game in its tracks.
In WFB there are many counters to most units on the table. Some counters come on the form os specialized units and others are built into the rules.  NO UNIT IS UNKILLABLE!!!  Now that I have said that, it is often hard for players to forget that one rule.  And it can result in a very frustrating game as your ‘uber’ unit is taken off the board for your opponent not suffering much in return (soft counter) or having your ‘uber’ unit get destroyed as it faced another ‘unkillable’ unit (hard counter).  WFB is a game of dice, and the Dice Gods can (and are) very fickle.  This is hard to remember, and can lead to laughs when taken as intended.  I personally try to not field units that would be deemed ‘unkillable’ in certain situations, as I do now the frustration of facing them and the utter joy of watching them at work.

Common ways to deal with a hard of soft counter:
  • Identify it and avoid it like the plague
  • Identify its (strength) weakness and confront on your own terms
  • Bait-n-Switch
  • Booze (drink booze, get drunk, enjoy the carnage inflected on you) <
Knowledge of rules is always a touchy subject and can devolve quickly.  I am quite guilty of adopting a (bad) approach on this matter from personal interest.  RAW vs RAI is a lengthy debate and can lead to allot of confusion and in-fighting.  The best approach is over all knowledge of rules.  Whilst not the best, solution it does help if parties know the rules of the game system and their armies.  If an opponent asks for clarity, fully read out the rule/ability (in full) from your army book, and/or give the page in the BRB.  This has been my recent approach and can come across rather cold when giving opponent the pages in the BRB to look over themselves.  Whilst not justifying my reasons, I do this as I have did abit too many introduction games and am tired of repeating basic rules when I play with ‘experienced’ players.  Have a rulebook (an updated FAQs) actually makes most arguments mute as allot of common questions are answered in said FAQ.  This also boils down to some trust in your opponent (to not cheat), it is , frankly,  too much work/hassle to attempt to know the rules for your army and an opponent you are playing against.  This also leads into a length debate over having a visible army list (preferably written the f@#$* down  - as you can see a very touchy subject for me) and WYSWYG vs Proxy but those are for another time.

The hardest thing (even for me to remember) is the Golden Rule – THIS IS JUST A GAME, RELAX AND HAVE FUN!!

Well time to get on with the rest of my week....But I need to work on my daemons.

What other daemons do players find get in the way of enjoying games?

Isle of Swords - Forces of Disorder

The Forces of Disorder went abit overboard with their character backgrounds.

So with out delay. I present The Forces of Disorder.\

----------------------------------------------------------------

Warriors of Chaos (Campaign Color - Dark Red)

Khor-Hak (General) During the great Storm of Chaos, Khor-Hak was given the task of ensuring the Orc and Goblin hoards remained in check. The Orc’s held no allegiances to the forces of Order or Destruction, so Khor-Hak was “forced” to wage open combat with the dull witted creatures in the name of Khorne. During the final push into the Empire, Khor-Hak was unable to fulfill his personal goal; so he left the Empire, and has been fighting in the name of Khorne since.
Not much is known of Khor-Hak’s lieutenants, save to say they are shadowy figures who’s actions have earned them their positions. What these actions are is hard to say, as Khor-Hak seems to be the only one aware of their actions, leaving the tribesmen to speculate and spread rumors about what they could have done…

Belithiel (Lieutenant) A purple glimmer seems to constantly radiate from his hand, and the hood he wears hides his glowing eyes. Flayus

(Lieutenant) Far less ominous looking is the potbellied appearance of Flayus, as he walks from place to place; the Earth under him twists and separates.

Dark Elf (Campaign Color - Black)

Sovage O’Preto (A Dreadlord of the Dark Elves) Born into a noble house of Grandest Naggaroth, Sovage learned quickly what it meant to be Druchii. Suspicion and ambition kept one both alive and relevant in the cold climes of Dark Elf society. Even as a child he was known to be especially cruel and calculating. The schemes of childhood becoming the strategies of warfare as he came to adulthood. His name rose quickly in the ranks of the noble-born of Naggaroth. He had been gifted with the entire wealth of his house, but few soldiers to go with it. Not a problem for an elf with vast wealth. His father was a successful raider and they lived well because of it. Sovage wanted his own name and made this known. His ambition paid off. He was given a fleet. Dark ships with dark sails. Magic spells cast upon their superior construction. Once word of his rise got out. They came to him in droves. Lower class elves seeking to make a name and to be paid for raiding and butchery. Sovage loved every moment. Each time an elf signed his name in blood his mother magicked the scroll, binding the elf in both deed and soul to her son. There would be no betrayal from an overly ambitious Druchii seeking to make a name or steal a fortune. Many had heard of his skill, both as a leader and a cold blooded killer. Still, gold was the main motivation. Among his troops was his own troupe of Black Guard, who he trained alongside. Most owed him life debts and they alone he trusted without doubt. They are the highest paid of his soldiers and live extravagantly, even for Dark Elves. Sovage does have many acquaintances among the noble houses, although he despises and regards most as sycophants. His mother, a powerful sorceress in her own right, granted him access to the temples of the dark elves that he might bear witness to the pleasures and the pain within. Several sorceresses have been seen in his company, ranging from new adults to centuries old. It has been said he even holds the favor of the Witch King, Malekith, himself. Though none would dare to ask directly. For Sovage has been known, like the vast majority of his kin, to take slight at such simple inquiries about his person. Many have gone missing for less intruding questions. Besides, who would want to know such things? Unless you were a spy… or an assassin… or perhaps you want something of his… or…

Celeene Bel’Ar (Lieutenant) Sorceress, assassin, mistress. Little else is known of this cunning and powerful dark elf. She has the ear of her Dreadlord and that appears to be all she cares for. She is rarely away from his side in Naggaroth. In battle she can often be seen laughing as she casts spell after spell, decimating her Lord’s enemies with dark magic. How she came to be in his employ is a constantly shifting rumor. Some say she was a gift from his mother, herself a sorceress of great power. Others that she came to him in the night, and seduced him with her beauty. Still others say she is a daemon or succubus, and has entrapped him with her wiles and stolen his soul. She is without doubt powerful, sadistic and incredibly beautiful even for one her ilk. More than one Druchii noblewoman has approached her in  an ill manner and felt her wrath. Burned to a cinder with a word, or transformed into some misshapen thing with a wave of slender fingers. She regrets nothing. She is cold. She is deadly. She is powerful. What else could one want in a woman.

Zaknafein D’ourtan (Lieutenant)Skilled with all manner of weapons. He had come to be in the service of Sovage O’Preto as a lowly mercenary. His prowess attracted much attention and once while sparring, he was approached by Sovage as he and his retinue of Sorceresses passed the training grounds. Soovage watched, his cold, keen gaze felt by the dual wielding warrior as he took on four combatants simultaneously. After easily dispatching two and nearly ending the life of the third, his hands clutching his chest as dark blood flowed through his fingers. The fourth, quickly lowered his blade and admitted defeat. Zaknafein looked toward the firm voice he heard as it challenged him. It was Sovage. “A friendly duel. First Blood to decide the victor.” As Sovage drew his sword, a dark blade, that seemed to emit a darkness from within itself, Zaknafein prepared his stance. His two blades at the ready and already stained with blood. A blur of movement and it had begun. The following morning, Zaknafein entered the tower of House O’Preto. He swore fealty to Sovage without hesitation. A patch, newly made, of sea dragon scale now covered his left eye socket. Despite the offers of Sovage’s harem of sorceresses, he has sworn that he will not restore the eye until he has proven he is worthy.

Vampire Counts (Campaign Color - Purple)
Lord Dakraht Delacroix (General) Not much is known of Lord Delacroix’s past. His broken broke body was found in “””Corpse Run”” claimed and chained in the dungeon of Noble Peter Hellsing.  Dakraht, as he was called by the Hellsing family was not killed as the Hellsings saw promise in having a ‘pet’.  The years past, as he “guarded” the family, many wayward threats meet their end in his dark cell and at his hands.  No one knew why Dakraht, played this ruse for many years, growing in strength as the fragments of his memories started to return.  The pretence was broken one even, as the Hellsing family’s keep was burned to the ground by marauding bandits.  Isabella, the great grand-daughter of Peter, fled to his cell as the bandits closed in to her location.  Fearing for her life she hid in the corner of Dakraht’s cell as the bandits approached.  Releasing Dakraht sealed the bandits’ fate, as he slaughtered the bandits, and sought their leader.  As the red haze dissipated, Isabella lay limp in his hand, dying as the blood drained from her neck.
Over the years Lord Delacroix has gathered a vast legion of undead as many come to his banner.  He rule his lands with a gentle hand, his moments of cruelty saved from the battlefield.  Not one to care much for his kin, he is known for hunting other stray vampires, only allowing the strong into his coven.

Lady Circe Sanguine (Lieutenant)  A concubine of Lord Delacroix, it is rumoured she is a descendant of the first Noble family that lived on the lands.  Her radiant beauty hides the beast within, as she travels the lands wooing nobles for their wealth and lands.  Many lords and ladies have been killed by her hands and made into her ‘pets’  She delights in tormenting her prey, drawing out their torture, sometimes, for years before giving them the release they crave.

Lord Christiansen (Lieutinant) A barbaric fighter, he does his lords bidding with a cold calculated efficiency.  His nature rising to the surface when angered, as his blood lust takes over. It was rumoured in his former life he was a Grail Knight, but no evidence of this can be found, though he has a statue of the Lady in his chambers.

Dark Elves (Campaign Colour - Green)

Dreadlord Vraneth (General) was born in the city of Har Ganeth , 5th son of Lord yath .After a mysterious death of of one of his sons Lord Vath sent Vraneth away to Karond'kar to serve on his brothers raiding ship, the Serpeants Heart, as a corsair . After many years of raiding the coasts of the Empire, Bretonnia, and Lustria Vraneth became very very rich .On one of his many raids he met Sovage O'Preto ,and they became comrades in killing and getting rich. In time Vraneth served on his fathers black ark, the Hareful heart ,when Vraneths father was killed in a raid,  the black ark was left to Vraneth .His brothers were not happy about it so they sent assassins to kill Vraneth. His brothers and their families were found a few days later butchered in their beds. The Hateful Heart was now Vraneths plus the 100 raiding ships with it . So begins the time Vraneth the Cruel.....

Dreadord DarkSplinter (Lieutenant) met Vraneth at the siege of GHROND by a CHAOS HORDE .Vraneth was a relief force which was out numbered 2-1 ,lord Darksplinter was the only high born to come out of the city and help Vraneth defeat them at the battle of PLAINS OF GRIEF  . Lord Darkspinter left with Vraneth and has been loyal to him ever since

Dreadord Kalath-Serr (Lieutenant) met Vraneth  at the battle of STRAITS OF FEAR , Vraneth as a corsair had a strong hold on the coast of the straits. On a trip home from a raid on ULTHUAN  he came upon a battle between 6 high elf ships and 2 duchii vessels , the odds where not good . Vraneth does not run from a fight so his vessels attacked and he went for the  high elf command ship which Kalath-Serr had rammed and was fighting 2 vessels at once. Vraneth hit the second ship and boarded it , the High elfs did not know what hit them and the fight was savage and quick . Kalath Serr was surrounded on the command ship , out of the crew 12 left to fight , bleeding from wounds and hating the smug look the high elf captain had on his face. But the high elfs smug look fell to the deck as Vraneth chopped off his head ,all was lost as the elfs saw there leader( loose his head  ) and fled . Kalath-Serr swore his life to Vraneth his life and pledged his loyalty  to him, and still has the head of the high elf commander as a drinking cup

Isle of Swords - Forces of Order

Each player was asked to provide a brief history on their army leaders.  This bit was made mandatory to allow players to create their own campaign fluff/stories. At the end of the campaign we would try to compile them all into one story.

So with out delay. I present The Forces of Order.

--------------------------------------------------

Bretonnian (Campaign Colour - Royal Blue)

Lord Westley (General) A experienced tactician and sailor. He had heard of the magical swords that was told by his grandfather when he was a little boy. Lady Buttercup - One of three sisters. Strong willed and stubborn. She is a great advisor to Lord Westley and a skilled sorceress.

In his 1500 year of age, Prince Aenur is in his prime of life. Like all elves he is tall and slim, though strength resides in his limbs from a life time of combat against the hated Druchii. Quick of mind and action, he has the fire that drives all those from Calador. The drive to see his kingdom become great once more and make the enemies of the Asur tremble with fear.

As warden of Calador it is up to him to protect his homelands shores and when nessecary take the fight to Naggaroth itself or other enemies. Not once have the hated Druchii landed on this sacred land while he stood watch. Prince Imrik, ruler of Calador, has sent a message to Aenur, to raise an army and claim these new lands for Calador. Though Prince Aenur dose not like to leave his duty as warden, he is eager to start the campaign. The druchii are dispatching forces as well, and have sent the one dark elf that Prince Aenur hates more above all Druchii: Sovage O'Preto. It was this dread lords forces that killed Archmage Haldamir at the battle of Red bay, and the sole lord that is responsible for so many raids on Asur colonies across the world and towns upon Ulthuan itself. Slavery and death is the only thing Sovage knows of and cares about... his death is coming at the tip of Prince Aenurs lance point.

Summoning his most trusted generals to take command of two of the takes forces, Archmage Haldamir (Lieutenant), and Lord Elladan (Lieutenant) shall accompany him on this mission. WFB Campaign - Isle of Swords - Brief Intro

Isle of Swords photo StormofSwordsMAP.png
Isle of Sword
Thiese posts are abit late as the campaign in fully under way.

The player group has decided to end the Warhammer Fantasy season with a camapign.  As per I volunteered to be the campain GM.  After a few weeks a lengthy campaign booklet was produced and the forces chosen.

The map above took as long to make as the booklet.  I will be covering the forces in the next few post. The campaign is following a different format with each player having to choose a side to play for.  The Forces of Disorder and facing off against the Forces of Order.  The format follows closely to the GW Supplement Blood in the Badlands.  (a very good campaign guide btw).

---------------
Campaign Introduction
The scrolls were right there was an island in the storm!! This island is rumoured to be the last knowing resting place of the fabled/cursed swords. Each blade is a powerful relic upon itself, its wielder would be granted untold power for order or destruction. The lands vast untold treasures were ripe for the picking. Who will claim the swords? Who will claim the Isle? Who would master the “storm” ?!?

The Campaign

The campaign takes place over a year in the Warhammer world, but over the course of 12 turns in the game. In each turn players more their armies, expanding the borders of their empire, build settlements, fortify strongholds and, most importantly, wage war. At the end of the campaign the final battle for control of the Isles is fought.

Brief Summary

Each player has three armies, each led by a hero. The armies move around the maps counquering lands and claiming artefacts as they go.

Over all is have been a fun campaign with various grudges forming.

Guess who's back!! WFB & List building

Well I’m back. The brain juices are flowing and I have killed the Writer’s/Painting/Living Block.  Many thanks to the sledgehammer of ‘stuff’

Recently, the local players have been on a WFB kick.  We don’t know why we stopped playing 40k when the new edition came out, but we slowly migrated to WFB.  We even have a campaign in the works to ‘close’ out the season.

The change in pace to WFB was fun and has raised a few interesting questions. List building it totally different in WFB!!!  In 40k you can (almost) just throw a list together and be able to do something with it. In WFB that same approach will leave you with a very disjointed list.  In building my lists, I personally take three (3) different approaches.

Approach #1 – What is this army’s theme going to be?

By theme I mean, what units does the army general prefer? How does he/she/it like to fight? Do they not choose any units do to a personal distaste?  Once I have decided I then pick units that suit the ‘flavour.  I still take time to include internal balance to the list.  This helps it be more flexible in its approach and on the table.  Whilst not an optimal way of choosing a list, it does make for some fun games.

Approach #2 – What mood am I in today?

This approach is rather weird as it makes no rationale sense and can produce some weird list.  Sometimes I just can’t be bothered so randomly pick units that I think will be fun to play.  Once I have grabbed those units I add in some supporting elements then hope for the best.  It can sometimes produce an “all eggs in one basket (deathstar)” style list.  The list usually fails to have any real impact on the table but has been known to win games (only due to VPs).

Approach #3 – Who do I want to play today?

This is also known as List tailoring and I something I hardly do.  Why? I personally don’t think it is fair to the opponent and comes down to who has a unit the opponent may not have ever faced or how many of ‘x’ can I field that he can’t handle.  I only do this approach if I have an arranged game and we (both players) decided to play a competitive, no holding back game.

Additional Consideration: Does this list have a magic defence? If the answer is No, I will sometimes find a way to include atleast a basic mage, unless the list fluff doesn’t allow.

--------

What approach should someone take?  The above are the ways I normal chose a list, but they are not the only ways out there.  I tend to like fluff over functionality so create a ‘reason for the battle’ before I build a list.  I personally, think that approach creates some good strong list, with an ability to be able to be fun.  I play for fun but that does not mean I don't like to win.

Not dead! Yearly recap and look forward

This update is LONG over due, and comes with apologies.Life hit me with a few hard blows but I am recovering.  Since my last post my PC decided it didn't want to work, my CC decided to steal funds and a massive work project. All in all it has been fun, but kept me from my plog..

So, new year , new goal.  I WILL have a post up every few days.

I have been working on finishing my Eldar, Vampire Counts and exploring the realms of Chaos.  There is also and "aftermath" from the campaign Apocalypse game that is needed.

On the eve of 6th Edition

I came across this and felt the need to share.  The original post can be found at White Scars Blog

Twas the night before 6th ed, when all through the house
Not a Army was built, not even Grey Knights.
The receipts were stored in the wallets with care,
In hopes that their pre-orders soon would be there.
The gamers were nestled all snug in their chairs,
While visions of grim dark danced in their heads.
With wives in their beds, and GF’s at home,
They sighed at our sight and settled for a nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
They sprang from their chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the window they flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon shown on the lawns below
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But my bros in a car shouting “Midnight release is here”.
With a designated driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment we would need to be quick.
More rapid than orks with RPJ, We whooped and whistled, and WAAGGHHEEDD, to all those that were near
“Now Smurfs’s! now, Bluies! now, Space Elves and Greenies!
On, Robbits! On, Bugs!, on Demons and Sisters!
To the top of the pile! to the top of the tier!
Now dash away! Dash away! You will be cheese by this fall!”
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When meet with an obstacle, the gamers did cry.
So to the internet the gamers did fly,
With a hardback rulebook, and a new sprue or two.
And then, in the night, The forums did fly
as new ideas blew the roof sky high.
As I grabbed my keyboard, and began to type,
The doomsaying began to abound.
From Australia to America the cries could be read,
with threats of fire turning the books to soot.
A bundle of armys on ebay were found,
And it looked like mechdar was leaving the pack.
But amongst this chaos, the mods blew a whistle,
And told people to chill before closing the threads.
But I heard them exclaim, before the hammer did fall,
“Chill the hell out and play some 6th first”
Happy 6th edition to all, see you all soon

It is out of season but is wargamers "wintereenmas" See Ctrl+Alt+Del for more details.
Maybe we should call it Neweditiocomas. (tm)

Anyone else as excited as I am?

Giddeon Prime - The forces muster....

The final battles dates and teams have been chosen. Due tot he scale of the battle it will be taking place over the period of two days late August. That gives us two months to get the 6th edition rules down abit better.

Amusing the team have fallen along cliche battle lines of Order versus Destruction. One would thin it was planned but no it just happened.

Forces of Order-vs-Forces of Destruction
Black TemplarsChaos SM
EldarDark Eldar
TauNecron
Imperial GuardDaemons

Now onto he story.......

----------------------------------------------------

The room echoed with the drumming of Mephiston’s clawed fingers on the table. Around the table before him were the lesser beings, but he would need them in the upcoming battle. A mock-up of the forces was projected on the display, the images taking a red hue reflected from the pool of blood below. Looking around the table he took stock on his “allies” for the upcoming battle.

To his right was Archon Drago Preato, leader og the Rilyn Vuz-Stra  Cabal. Cloaked in flickering shadows him lithe frame hid a seething killing grace, and unsettling unblinking eyes. Malice seemed to leak and bleed the air around him. Even now Drago caressed his blade laid on the table before him, like a mother to her child. Khronus hoped he could contain his rage long enough to finish this brief.

Like a statue Amenophis Phaeron of the Sautekh Dynasty stood, refusing to sit. Like a statue he was draped in silken, which trailed behind as he walked. The ‘staff’ on the table gleaned in the dim light, its blade unusually sharp. The glow of Amenophis' eyes, contrasted the gloom.

Helmgore Grosstremble sipped deeply from his goblet, letting the liquid run out the corners of his mouths. Cackling in laughter, it changed to another form to catch the drops before they fell to the ground. Its shimmering form was unsettling, but Khronus knew its masters blessed him with its presence.

Banging his hand on the table, Mephiston took a breath as his allies took stock of him.

“When this war began, we turned on each other. Like animals we fought or whatever scarps we could claim. Now look at us, betrayed by the very bonds that hold us together.

This planet is our, we only need to reach out at take it. Our forces wait to bathe in the blood of the enemy. Who are we to deny them the small pleasures in life? Against us our enemies have allied with the children of the weak Imperial corpse.

That whih serves its struggle for life must now be extinguished. What harms its struggling life is bad and must be eliminated and cut out. With burning hearts and cool heads we will overcome the paltry forces set against us at this phase of the war. We are on the way to final victory.

The great crises and upsets of battle show who the true men are. We have no right any longer to allow this blight of weakness to display its determination and spiritual impurity. We are ready for anything. Chaos has commanded, and we will follow. In this hour of reflection and contemplation, believe firmly and unshakably in victory. We see it before us, we need only reach for it. We must resolve to subordinate everything to it. That is the duty of the hour.

Now rise up and let the storm break loose!”

------------------------------------------------------------
We have recent received an Apocalypse book and the point limit had been removed to allow a more 'epic' battle.  Lord Mephisotn has taken the lead and is coordinating the battle and keeping players informed of the changes and what-they-need-to-know.

This will be out first Apoc game and hopefully not our last.

6th Edition comes....

Apologies ofor the lack og updates. I do have allot of stories and articles in "draft" form though.  The rumors of 6th edition and life have been keeping me very busy.

I am SO excited I can hardly contian myself,.  A new edition always brings in my favourite aspect of the game. It is nto the new rules, the inner confusion and the rejigging of "winner" list  but new influx of players. WHether they be returning for a hiatis of newbs fresh off the Drop pod they will bring a breathe of air to the hobby ona whole.

*lol* starting to sound like a senile old fool.  Stay tuned for the Apocalypse updates. The Forces of Chaos were spied on during their briefing and the gauntlet was thrown down.

The war for Giddeon Prime is over!!

As with all good things......they come to an end.

With the news of a new edition the players decided to put a premature end to the campaign. It was fun whilst it lasted and I'm sure many rivalries have been created.

As many had bought, or where purchasing super-heavies we decided to let each other lead players command an alliance to decide the final overall victor. With a mad cackle 10,000 per side was chosen as the remaining players were divided. It was decreed that the two vets were not allowed on the same team, being good sports we agreed and it oddly set-up a classic match up.

I have to admit coordinating this campaign did have some additional challenges, my wife was away for two (2) months and sitters disappeared. *grumble* but also, reinforces the difficulty in running and playing in the same campaign.

I hope the players had fun. Stay tuned for the final fluff and scores. I have been negligent in my blogging, so have a few post to catch up on.

Campaign feedback appreciated. What did you like/dislike? Ways to improve? What type pf campaign are you interested in? Willing to run the next?

Return to Giddeon Prime - End of Summer

The forces of Imperium of Man - Black Templar and Imperial Guard, had showed up for the meeting that was to address the concern of the Tyranids.

Return to Giddeon Prime - End of Summer Scenario

There have been sightings of Tyranids all over Gideon Prime. The armies that are stationed there know that if there is one bug, there are bound to be more... Wishing to parley the Commanders decided to meet at "stone table" to decided the fate of Giddeon Prime. A desolate piece of land stone table sits in a basin surrounded hills, the land abandoned once the mines ran dry. As the commanders debated the various sub-commanders watched from their camps wary and waiting for some sign of treachery.

Giddeon Prime - End of Summer

+++
Spores continue to rain down on the planet, spreading the Tyranids infestation of Giddeon Prime. The hive tyrant senses the prey of this planet are divided and weak, a lair has been established, the next phase of advancement begins.

Chaplin Adolfus rises from a prayer of thanks to the EMPEROR and blesses those breathern around him. The Necrons thought they could push north but with righteous fury the Black Templars halted their advancement and pushed them back and captured some of their territory. While to the west more Xeno scum perished under the blades of the blessed.

Imperial guard commander ( Don't know which one), looks over his maps one more time in his siege line bunker. Doubts run through his mind about the assault coming of the capital. With so few men and resources left he is cautious, wanting to make sure victory is possible.

Maphiston the Reborn rises to his feet. The whispers of the gods have finally given him an insight on the movements of the enemy. With a wet growl commands are issued and the armies of the dark gods advance once again from the cold north.

Turn 9 - Movement
As the summer drew to a close it seemed everyone was making grab for territory.  The map heaved a sigh as armies marched in all directions.  BT tunred their eyes to Necrons, and the Cron continued the 'grudge' match against the DE.  Eldar were getting pushed back by the encroaching Nids, and left the city to its fate.  Tau used the shift to attempt to stamp out the last Daemon forces and Chaos marched on them.

Turn 9 - Final
No one saw this, but BT pushed to the lead tied with Chaos for the end of summer.  The ELdar hold had finally been broken by the NIds. Tau, oddly, held the same amount of territories as no one seemed to be attack them. The dice proved to be the victor as another series of failed capture rolls happened.

Laughing at the outcomes, everyone agreed that the campaign was going to get fierce int he last season of its 1st campaign year.  What will Fall bring????

Based on the moves made so far, who do you think will win the 1st campaign year?

Wednesday Ramdomness and Painting Charts

Stumbling through my blog list, I came across the post that seemed to come from my mind.  The post was on finding a balance between playing and playing the image below sums up the post.

As I read through the comments I can across a mention of a painting chart.  This is not something new, BUT i finally took the time to create one myself.  I followed a link to Admiral Drax's blog and took it from there.

The hour spent creating my initial template was worth it. I can now see how far I have come and how much work I need to complete for my Eldar army. I look forward to creating the Space Marine, C SM and Vampire Counts charts.

Eldar Painting Chart
As you can see, I have made allot of headway in very little time, but still have a way to go. I look forward to my Eldar getting completed.

I wish to thank Admiral Drax for inspiring me to get this done.

Campaign Update - Summer T7 and 8

I'm in your base, eating your face....
Apologies for the long delay on the campaign update and the blog in general.  Lives threw me a fast ball, and I have been a solo parent for the past month.  My daughter has TOO much energy and has been wearing me out.

Monday Randomness

Catching up on my weekly reading at Bell of Lost Souls, I came across one of thier many 'intersting' reads.
Whilst I usually comment on thier site. I have chosen to write on my own regarding my view of the article and its comments.  The original article canbe found here "Grey Knights make me a worse player", please take some time to read the article if you haven't.  I persoanlly found it amusing and (to me) typical of BoLs misdirect.
To parapharse the article:
  • GK are too easy to win with.
  • I learned them on one game.
  • they are not a challaenge.
  • GW needs to balance its codex
  • ranodm whine about how broken they are
  • random gripe.
  • insert commentors.
The best response to this artcile is sadly posted on another page.
Brent Davey   I find it funny that theirs this whole rage about the competitive nature of 40k people need to learn that the internet lists don't always win. at 2000 points if you believe the internet a dark elder witch army would destroy any tau army but i have found that to no be the case in my personal experience.
In my experience it my suposidly top tier space wolfs army actual dose bad against grey knights, where as my low tier armys being Tau and Orks actually mess up grey knight quite well. admirably the grey knights i fight aren't the silly over the top but nether are my Tau or Ork armys.
and on the subject of codex creep find it funny cause if you all look at who writes any given codex it wards stuff that seams to brake all the rules (still think he was ether stoned, drunk or both when he wrote grey knights).
Why do i feel this comment is a relevant reply? Because it sums up an amusing point.  GKs can and do get beaten by the more lower powered armies. But shouldn't they be an 'auto-win'' button?
The article makes a few valid points (I think) but fails to note one thing, player ability. There was a series of articles the weeks before regarding "Playing laterally and how to win when the internets say you suck".
I think this is a HUGE factor in the creation of this articel. BigRed forgot to factor in the fact that is is a highly skilled longtime player.  I persoanlly have found that more skilled players can do wonders with any army that they play.  Will an "easier" to play army give them less of a challenge? Yes, but the same can be said for any army.

I have seen  new players, cream  veteran players in thier first games.  I have also seen veteran players finish 2k battles in under 1 hour.  Player ability has allot to do with how an army plays and how easy it seems.
Also Warhammer 40 and WFB has a main flavor that has been GWs philosophy for a long time.  "All armies are not created equal" this menas that some are easier to play then others, some test a players ability and furstration levels. Some match-ups will ebe tough as they are SUPPOSE to be.  This is one of the aspects I enjoy about playing 40k, they amount of discussion arguements I have had with new and pld plauyers around 'this is OP'd etc..' are amusing.  Most of these discussion can be resolved by considering all units of the codex in comparison to another codex and the armies overall theme  (strengths/weaknesses)

I think thiis ramble, went in a weird direction....

So you think a player's skill/ability has a major factor on thier fun/and if they win?
